This weekend was the San Luis Obispo Concours d’ Elegance and it offered people the opportunity to see some very nice cars. San Luis Obispo is located about half way between Los Angeles and San Francisco along the 101 freeway on the California coast. The show included great sports cars and antique cars ranging from Rolls Royces and Bentleys to Ferraris and Porsches.
For Porsche enthusiasts the show featured a Porsche Carrera GT and the new Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S. It also featured classic Porsches ranging from Porsche 356s and early Porsche 911s to newer Porsche 911s (997), including a very nice Porsche 911 (997) Turbo Cabriolet. There was even an early Porsche 944 that was so clean you could eat off the engine.
For Ferrari fans there was perhaps the crown jewel of the show, a Ferrari Enzo. The number of Ferraris in the show was incredible. Models ranged from early 60’s models to the new Ferrari FF. All of the cars where in great condition and it isn’t often that one sees so many Ferraris in one place.
Other cars in the show included a few vintage Mercedes (even one that used a crank start), including a Mercedes 300SL “Gullwing” (and the new Mercedes SLS “Gullwing”). There where plenty of Aston Martins and Lamborghinis to fill out the sports cars in the show. There where even some muscle cars to round out the event.
Checkout all the great cars from the show in the below photo gallery. It is one of the shows that I’ll be back at next year.
Please Note: The slide show feature only allows for you to go through 20 images at a time, so you will need to use the paging links below the gallery to view all of the images.

1970 Daytona 24 Hours Race Winning Gulf Porsche to be featured at the Fifth Annual Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show.
In June, approximately 250,000 fans will converge on the Circuit de la Sarthe for the 80th Grand Prix of Endurance, des 24 Heures du Mans 2012, but on June 2, 2012 at Boy’s Republic, 1907 Boys Republic Drive in Chino Hills, California, fans of the actor who made the race famous on film will participate in a gathering on a smaller scale but with no less reverence. The fifth annual Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show will celebrate the character of Frank Bullitt as portrayed by the iconoclastic actor in the movie “Bullitt” as cars, motorcycles and fans arrive for the display on the campus of The Boys Republic. However, for many attendees as well as entrants, it is the role of Michael Delaney in the classic film “Le Mans” that raises the pulse, and no race car is more identified with Steve McQueen than the legendary Porsche 917.
This year’s show is privileged to present one such example of that legendary status, Gulf Porsche 917K chassis 015, the overall winner of the 1970 Daytona 24 Hours. This race was the debut of the J.W. Automotive Gulf sponsored Porsches and it was a complete triumph finishing 1st and 2nd. This particular 917 completed the race with no major problems and won by a margin of forty-six laps, a record that was intact for seventeen years. The owner of 917-015, Bruce Canepa of Scotts Valley, Ca, is passionate about all things automotive and is pleased to share this passion with other like-minded enthusiasts by entering his Porsche in the Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys Republic, 1907 Boys Republic Drive, Chino Hills, CA. Parking is free and admission is $10.00 with children under 12 free. For those wishing to enter the car show, please visit the website for registration. For more information: www.stevemcqueencarshow.com
Special thanks to Lizett for letting us know about the show.
This past weekend was the big Pebble Beach weekend. For Porsche one of the big displays was the Porsche 918 RSR. While, not much official video has yet been released (but, I understand there will be quite a few good videos and photos and I’ll post them as soon as I get them), but I did find a video that an attendee of the event posted. The audio is not the best, but the visual quality is pretty good, so check out the video below.
Also, if you where able to attend the event let us know what your thoughts where of the weekend in the comments.
This last weekend was Carmageddon weekend in Los Angeles with the 405 Freeway closed. Because of this many people headed north up the 101 to San Luis Obispo. All of this plus beautiful weather made for a great car show.
The Gathering of Friends – all European Car Show was put on by the Central Coast region of of the Porsche Club of America and the Central Coast Porsche 356 Club. This meant that there were a lot of great Porsches on display. Porsche models on display included Porsche 914s, Porsche 356s, Porsche 911s, Porsche 944s, a Porsche Cayman and a Porsche Carrera GT.
Other notable cars from other makers where a couple of Ferrari Daytonas, a Mercedes 300SL Gullwing and an Aston Martin Vantage. There were many other great cars in the show, but it would take a while to name them all. Even the parking lot was full of great cars like a Ferrari F430, a Porsche 996 GT3, a Porsche 912 and a Porsche 914-6 (all looked like they could have been shown).
The day was great and the location was incredible. The show overlooked Laguna Lake in San Luis Obispo and has held at a great park. So, if you are able to get to San Luis Obispo next year around the third weekend in July check out the Gathering of Friends car show.
Below are additional pictures from the show of some of the great Porshces on display.
