The Art of the Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S – Video

By   December 21, 2012

This video shows the Royal College of Art’s (RCA) exhibit featuring the new Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S along side with fine artworks. The new Porsche 911 Carrera S feels right at home among these exquisite artworks and it is a testament to the 911’s timeless design and beauty. The video features Porsche General Manager or Exterior Design, Matthias Kulla, talking about the style of the latest 911 and how it is a work of art all of its own. The London based RCA is one of the world’s leading car design institutions and many of Porsche’s car designers have honed their skill at RCA (including Matthias Kulla).

Would You Do This With Your Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS – Video

By   December 21, 2012

This video is a music video by Jamiroquai featuring a Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS. The video shows the rare car drives drives on dirt roads and does some great stunts. While this makes for a great entertaining music video, I find myself thinking that I wouldn’t let anybody drive my Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS on dirt roads like that. While I’m all for enjoying a classic Porsche, if this was my car I wouldn’t want any gravel to ruin the paint, so would only drive it on paved roads.

The car in the video appears to be the same Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS owned by Jamiroquai’s lead singer Jay Kay. The below video shows Jay Kay talking a bit more about the car earlier this year.

I applaud Jay Kay for driving and enjoying the car, I just don’t think I would personally have it driven on a dirt road, but let us know what you think in the comments below.

Hat Tip to Brad for sharing this video with us.

A Porsche 911 SC Off-Roading – Video

By   December 20, 2012

This video is something to watch. Watch as a stock Porsche 911 SC (other than the added lights) goes off roading on a course that some 4×4 trucks have a had time driving. The Porsche 911 has a history of making some great rally cars and this video really shows this heritage. The video will make you want to find an old 911 that needs some work, but has a good drive train and take it out to do this (after that you could start restoring it).

Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S vs Porsche 911 (997) GT3 – Video

By   December 20, 2012

This video features Tiff Needell driving the new Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S on the track to see how it compares to the 997 variant GT3. The Porsche 911 (997) GT3 is basically a road going version of Porsche 911 (997) GT3 RSR race car. The question is how close is the wonderful brand new Porsche 911 (991) Carrera S to the GT3 and if it is close, just how fast will the new 991 variant GT3 be? Watch the video to find out and to give you an idea of the incredible machine that the new GT3 might be when it comes out.

Carbon Wrapped Porsche 911 (996) GT2 Driven on the Track – Video

By   December 19, 2012

This video contains footage of a track day that took place on the Park Zandvoort circuit. The video features a Porsche 911 (996) GT2 with a full carbon wrap. Apparently the car was originally silver but it now is being driven with the full carbon wrap. The 996 GT2 variant was incredibly fast when it was introduced with 0-60 MPH times of around 3.7 seconds. The video also features many other sports cars and other Porsches, but the main focus is the Porsche 911 (996) GT2.

New Porsche 911 Carrera 4: Heritage – Video

By   December 19, 2012

This video shows the heritage of the new all-wheel drive Porsche 911 Carrera 4. The video shows footage of the first all-wheel drive Porsche 911 that won the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally. This same car was on display at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and it was a great looking car. Funny thing is that I posted another video featuring this car yesterday (you can see that video here). With such a great heritage it is no wonder that the new all-wheel driver Porsche 911 Carrera 4 is a great car.

Correction: The rally car footage is actually of the Porsche 959 and not the 911 that won the 1984 Paris-Dakar rally. Sorry for the confusion, I was interrupted while watching the video and didn’t hear the audio and just saw the livery quickly so thought it was the 911. Thanks to Eric for pointing out this mistake.

Rally Driver Colin McRae Driving Porsche 911 Rally Car – Video

By   December 18, 2012

This video features the late rally driver Colin McRae taking a drive in a classic Porsche 911 Rally Car. The Porsche 911 in the video was the first all-wheel drive Porsche 911 and was the winner of the 1984 Paris-Dakar Rally. The car looks great in action on the video and having seen this car in person at this years Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, I can attest that in person it is a remarkable looking machine.

Porsche 911 Carrera 4X4

After Colin drives the Porsche 911, he gets into a 2004 Subaru WRX and compares the 80’s Porsche 911 rally car to a modern rally car. While the Subaru WRX is quite a machine for rally driving, the Porsche 911 appears to be a more poised automobile as it goes around the track (but then I am a bit partial to the Porsche). The video is an entertaining watch and it is nice to see a classic rally car getting driven like it was meant to be driven again.

Vintage Top Gear Review of the Porsche 911 (964) Turbo – Video

By   December 18, 2012

The Porsche 911 (964) Turbo was quite a car in its day. In fact it is a car that is still very fast even by today’s high standards. This video of Old Top Gear shows Tiff Needell reviewing the 1993 Porsche 911 (964) Turbo. Tiff takes the then new 911 Turbo to the Millbrook proving grounds and puts the car through its paces. The Millbrook proving grounds allows for the 911 to be tested in straight line performance, handling and braking.

The 964 911 variant had what some called controversial styling at the time of its release. While the styling isn’t quite as good as the 993 911 variant, it still looks very good. The 964 911 variant is one of the best performing air-cooled 911s that you can buy and their values are fairly low right now, so they are a good buy.

Vintage Porsche 928 Advertisement – Video

By   December 17, 2012

This video is an early ad for the Porsche 928 S. The vintage video is from the early to mid-eighties and shows a different time for advertisements. The ad is slower moving than modern advertisements but has a lot of great footage of the Porsche 928 S. The 928 was a very different car for Porsche, with its powerful engine (especially for the time) in the front and a trans-axle in the back to give it great handling (essentially the same layout as the 924, 944 and 968, but with a V8).

Porsche purists were never big fans of the 928 as it was so different than traditional Porsches. In many ways this was too bad as the Porsche 928 may very well be the best GT car ever made. It is very different from the 911 and the front engined sports car Porsches should never have been planned as a replacement (just my opinion, and I like the front engined cars), but unfortunately that has led to many Porsche enthusiasts thinking of the front engined Porsches as non true Porsches. Only time will tell, but I think over time more and more People will come to enjoy the 928 for what it is and that values will begin to climb.

By   December 17, 2012

The video features Michael Mauer and Mitja Borkert talking you through the process that went into the the design of the Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo. The video is a very interesting watch for anybody interested in automotive design.
